Modus Spółka Akcyjna in Bydgoszcz began its production activity as a socialized enterprise in 1945. They gathered a number of small departments located in different parts of the city. At that time, the plant had twelve separate production, auxiliary and social facilities located in old buildings. The production departments were equipped with various types of outdated sewing machines and hand irons. For this reason, the production methods at that time differed slightly from craft tailoring workshops. It was not until 1961 that a new production facility was put into use at ul. Lenartowicza 33. This enabled the consolidation of all production and auxiliary departments and improved working conditions.

Modern production machines and devices were gradually introduced to the new facility. The breakthrough period in the mechanization of sewing work was 1965, when the first steam machines for ironing and forming clothes were installed. These machines eliminated the tedious and laborious manual ironing.
Since 1967, the company has also conducted commercial activities through a specialist clothing store.
In 1971, the Clothing Industry Plant “ORMII” in Miłosław was taken over, while in 1976 the production branch located in Inowrocław was taken over from the ZPO “TORPO” in Toruń.

In the 1980s, a new department specializing in the production of headgear was built. The facility was put into use in 1988. It replaced the cramped production halls located in the old building.
In 1992, a clothing wholesaler was opened, which was to increase sales and compete more effectively with the competition through the prices of manufactured products. In the same year, the state-owned enterprise called Zakłady Przemysłu Odzieżowego “MODUS” was divided into four independent enterprises under the names:
Przedsiębiorstwo Odzieżowe “MODUS” in Bydgoszcz,
Przedsiębiorstwo Odzieżowe “MODINA” in Inowrocław,
Przedsiębiorstwo Odzieżowe “MIKON” in Miłosław,
Zakłady Przemysłu Odzieżowego “PIŁA” in Piła
Two years later, on August 1, 1994, the state-owned enterprise was transformed into a sole-shareholder company of the State Treasury. In the same year, in order to further expand market sales, the company “MODUS – SUBIEKT” S.A. was established on the basis of the existing wholesale company, with “MODUS”” S.A. as its main shareholder.
On September 12, 1995, the company’s shares were contributed to VI NFI Magna Polonia.
In 2000, “SUBIEKT” S.A. was reincorporated together with the existing company stores into “MODUS” S.A.
In the years 1996-2000, the company underwent financial, property and organizational restructuring. Decisions were made to sell unnecessary fixed assets, mainly real estate, employment was reduced, and a closed and non-public bond issue was carried out.

In 2005, the property located at Lenartowicza Street was sold and the facility at Św. Trójcy Street was purchased. After adaptation works aimed at adapting the facility to conduct business activities, in February 2006 the company began operating in its new premises.
Currently, “MODUS” S.A. is one of the largest manufacturers of men’s clothing in Poland. It specializes primarily in sewing service, uniform, business and corporate clothing.
